So what is the National Canon Envirothon? It’s an annual competition in which high school aged students from the US and Canadian Provinces demonstrate their knowledge of environmental sciences and natural resource management. By exercising training and problem-solving skills in a competition centered on four universal testing categories such as soils/land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, and wildlife as well as current environmental issues.
So what do the winners get? Recognition as well as scholarships! What a great opportunity for high school students to continue their interest in the environment by continuing their studies at a University or College with the help of a scholarship!!
The event which is being co-sponsored by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, takes place at Northern Arizona University from July 28 – August 2, 2008. I know that they are looking for volunteers. If you would be interested, information may be found on the Envirothon Website.
